The Ottawa Redblacks have agreed to terms with Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive end Lorenzo Mauldin IV ahead of the opening of free agency, according to the player himself.

While pending free agents cannot sign with new clubs until free agency officially opens on February 8, Mauldin revealed his commitment to the Redblacks with a tweet Saturday morning after taking advantage of the league’s legal tampering window.

Mauldin issued the following statement after his announcement: “Thank you to the city of Hamilton and the Ticats for embracing me and allowing me be apart of their blue collar and family oriented environment. I will forever and humbly appreciate the laughs, the grind, blood sweat and tears I’ve dealt with my brothers there, Thank You!”

The six-foot-four, 259-pound defender played three seasons with the Jets before injuries derailed his NFL career, recording 33 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and an interception in 26 games played.
