Canadian Football Hall of Fame receiver Geroy Simon is joining the Edmonton Elks as an assistant general manager, according to Rod Pedersen.
The 46-year-old has spent the past seven years working in personnel with the B.C. Lions, the team with which he spent most of his 15-year CFL career. His current title is director of global scouting & U.S. regional scout, though he has also worked on the national draft in the past.
Simon finished his career as the CFL’s all-time leading receiver with 16,352 yards. He won three Grey Cups — two with B.C. and one in Saskatchewan — and was named a CFL all-star six times.
The Elks announced the hiring of Chris Jones on Tuesday as the team’s new head coach and general manager. He previously served as the head coach in Edmonton for two seasons (2014-15) before departing for Saskatchewan.
Jones has his work cut out for him as the Elks are coming off an abysmal 3-11 season during which crowd sizes dwindled late in the year. The board cleaned house three days after Edmonton’s final game of the 2021 season — a 43-10 loss to B.C. — firing president Chris Presson, general manager Brock Sunderland, and head coach Jaime Elizondo.
