Riders’ receiver Ricardo Louis suffers torn Achilles, out for postseason

Saskatchewan Roughriders’ receiver Ricardo Louis has suffered a torn Achilles, head coach Craig Dickenson revealed on Wednesday. He will be replaced by Paul McRoberts in the West Semi-Final.

Louis made his CFL debut in the Labour Day Classic against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, making two receptions for 33 yards. He made 18 catches for 213 yards and two touchdowns in nine games this season.

The 27-year-old signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in June 2021 and spent the first three weeks of the season on the practice roster.

Louis was a fourth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2016 NFL Draft and dressed for 32 games over this first two seasons, recording 45 receptions for 562 yards. He missed the following two seasons with a neck injury in 2018 with Cleveland and a knee injury with Miami in 2019, ending his NFL career.

He played collegiately at Auburn University where he was a teammate of veteran Roughriders’ defensive back Nick Marshall, who was playing quarterback at the time.

The pair connected for the “Prayer at Jordan-Hare,” a game-winning Hail Mary that secured a 43-38 win for Auburn over Georgia. The victory helped the Tigers secure a first-place finish in the SEC West Division, electrifying the 87,451 fans in attendance.
