Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Andrew Harris will miss his team’s Week 12 game against the B.C. Lions with a knee injury.

Fellow Winnipegger Brady Oliveira will take his place in the starting lineup.

He limped off the field following a touchdown reception in the second quarter against the Edmonton Elks in Week 11 and did not return.

Harris has 623 yards on the ground this season, putting him 54 back of Montreal’s William Stanback for the league lead.

The 34-year-old missed the first three games of the season with a calf injury and sat out most of training camp.

Harris had not previously missed a game due to injury in his three seasons in Winnipeg despite a heavy workload. However, the Bombers’ primary ball carrier was suspended for two games in 2019 after testing positive for a trace amount of a performance-enhancing substance.

Harris has led the league in rushing on two separate occasions and is 339 yards away from 10,000 for his career.

Only five players in CFL history have ever reached 10,000 career rushing yards: Mike Pringle (16,425), George Reed (16,116), Damon Allen (11,920), Johnny Bright (10,909), and Charles Roberts (10,285). All of these players are American, meaning Harris would be the first Canadian player ever to reach 10,000 career rushing yards.

The Bombers (9-1) have a chance to clinch first in the West Division when they play the Lions (4-5) Saturday in Winnipeg.
