Edmonton Elks release Canadian DB Jermaine Gabriel

Edmonton has released Canadian defensive back Jermaine Gabriel.

The 31-year-old CFL veteran appeared in five games for the Elks this season.

Gabriel is an experienced starter in the secondary. He was selected by the Toronto Argos in the second round, 17th overall during the 2013 CFL Draft.

He played the first seven seasons of his career in The Six. Gabriel has recorded 239 tackles, 37 special teams stops, seven sacks, forced four fumbles, nabbed two interceptions and scored one defensive touchdown through 100 games. Gabriel won a Grey Cup with the Argos in 2017.

The Canadian Junior Football League product played for the Calgary Colts in the Prairie Football Conference during the 2012 season while football has been his salvation.
