Canadian Chuba Hubbard expected to be Panthers starting RB with Christian McCaffrey out ‘a few weeks’

Carolina Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey will be sidelined with a hamstring injury and Canadian Chuba Hubbard is set to take over as the starter.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport has the latest newsPanthers star RB Christian McCaffrey is expected to miss a few weeks, sources say, as the team continues to run tests on his hamstring injury suffered last night. IR is not the plan as of now. Rookie Chuba Hubbard is the next man up.

McCaffrey suffered a hamstring strain in Thursday night’s game against the Houston Texans, leaving the match-up after recording seven carries for 31 yards. He did not return to the field for the rest of the evening. That meant Hubbard became the focal point of the Panthers offence.

The 22-year-old Sherwood Park, Alberta native looked like he belonged on an NFL field. He carried the football 11 times for 52 yards with a 4.7 yards per carry average and a long rush of 14 yards. Hubbard also caught three passes for 27 yards, nine yards per reception. Overall, the Bev Facey Community High School graduate had 14 touches for 79 yards.

Hubbard played an important role in Carolina’s 24-9 win as the Panthers improved to 3-0 on the season. He is scheduled to start against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4 on Sunday, October 3.
