The B.C. Lions have added running back and return specialist Chris Rainey to the one-game injured list due to a calf problem. He did not participate in practice this week and will miss Friday’s game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Defensive end J.R. Tavai was also added to the one-game injured list due to an issue with his hamstring. Neither player had missed a game previously this season due to injury.

Shaq Cooper will handle the kick returning duties in Rainey’s place, while rookie James Butler will start at running back. Temple product Dana Levine Jr. will start at defensive end in place of Tavai in what will be his first CFL game.

Tavai has been effective in his first season with the Lions since joining the team as a free agent in February 2020. He has made 16 total tackles, two sacks, and one forced fumble coming off the edge of a revamped B.C. defensive line.

The Lions host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday night at 10:30 p.m. ET.
