Calgary Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has no regrets about being activated from the injured list faster than anticipated after suffering a broken leg.

Mitchell returns as the starting QB in Edmonton against the Elks in Week 6.

“I don’t care if I break my leg again, I’m ready to put it on the line for the team and do whatever it takes. I’ve been a top player for so long that it’s hard to be on the sidelines watching your team go through some things,” Mitchell said.

“The main concern is making sure that it doesn’t turn into a problem right away, limping around and having to push too much for the rest of the season. The way I see it, there is really no looking back right now.”

The 31-year-old Mitchell watched from the sidelines as the Stamps lost in the Labour Day Classic 32-20, falling to 1-4, last place in the West Division. He started in Calgary’s back-to-back losses to start the season, beginning a year 0-2 for the first time in his CFL career.

The team is paying me like the No. 1 player and I need to make sure I am that guy when I’m on the field — I’ve gotta be the best guy for the job,” Mitchell said.

The Stampeders gunslinger has yet to reach his usual league MOP-calibre level of play in 2021. He’s completed 44-of-73 pass attempts (60 percent) for 542 yards with one touchdown and five interceptions. The two-time Grey Cup champion will be back behind centre on Saturday in the Alberta capital trying for his first win of the season.
