The CFL has announced three fines after reviewing the film from its first week back in action since 2019.

B.C. Lions’ rookie linebacker Jordan Williams was fined for his headshot on Saskatchewan Roughriders’ quarterback Cody Fajardo. The decision came as somewhat of a surprise, considering it went unpenalized even after head coach Craig Dickenson challenged the non-call during the game.

Dickenson told the media on Tuesday that he respects the officials, but still felt the play should have resulted in a penalty. Meanwhile, Fajardo joked that he wasn’t a “big enough name yet to get that call.”

The CFL also announced fines to Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ defensive back Noah Hallett for an unnecessary hit on Hamilton Tiger-Cats defensive back Frankie Williams and Edmonton Elks’ offensive lineman David Beard for a chop-block on Ottawa Redblacks’ defensive lineman Cleyon Laing.

As per league policy, the amounts of the player fines were not disclosed.
