Edmonton Elks release veteran receiver Kenny Stafford

The Edmonton Elks have released veteran receiver Kenny Stafford, per sources.

The 31-year-old pass catcher had been making training camp all about franchise quarterback Trevor Harris, but that didn’t matter to Elks head coach Jaime Elizondo and general manager Brock Sunderland.

Stafford has spent parts of four seasons with the EE Football Team over the course of his seven-year CFL career. The Columbus, OH native’s most productive season came as a member of Edmonton’s 2015 Grey Cup winning team. During that CFL championship season, Stafford recorded 47 receptions for 732 yards and a team-leading nine touchdowns.

The six-foot-three, 204-pound Stafford has played in 70 career games catching 194 passes for 2,626 yards and 18 touchdowns, averaging 13.5 yards per reception. He has had stints in Montreal, Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, Calgary, and Edmonton during his time in the CFL. 

After four years in the NCAA with the University of Toledo Rockets, Stafford went unselected in the 2012 NFL Draft. He had a training camp stint with the Atlanta Falcons prior to coming north of the border to play in Canada.
