The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are officially eligible to host capacity crowds at IG Field this season.

The announcement was made on Wednesday as part of a loosening of restrictions in the province.

Manitoba was the worst hot spot for COVID-19 in all of North America as recently as May, though numbers have dramatically improved in recent weeks. Only 25 new cases of the virus were reported on Tuesday, which was the lowest single-day total in Manitoba since September 22, 2020.

Blue Bombers’ president and CEO Wade Miller has previously stated that only fully-vaccinated fans will be permitted to attend games for the month of August.

Miller has already said the team will not raise its 2019 Grey Cup banner until IG Field can hold a capacity crowd. It sounds like that may happen in just four weeks when the team hosts the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to kick-off the 2021 CFL season.

Editor’s note: a previous version of this article stated that the team would need to submit a plan for approval to the province, when in fact the team has already received approval.
