Canadian offensive lineman Jean-Simon Roy has retired from the Edmonton Elks.

The 27-year-old was a second-round pick of the team in 2017 and dressed for three games over his first two professional seasons.

He was claimed off Edmonton’s practice roster in June 2019 by the B.C. Lions and appeared in seven games with the team, starting four at centre. He finished the season on injured reserve and wasn’t retained prior to the start of free agency the following year.

The Elks brought Roy back into the fold as a free agent in February 2020, though the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The six-foot-three, 295-pound blocker was a highly-regarded prospect out of Université Laval.
