Ticats, Bombers 107th Grey Cup rematch scheduled to start 2021 CFL season August 5: report

The 2021 CFL season will kick-off with the same two teams playing that finished the last season in Canada.

The reigning Grey Cup champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Thursday, August 5 at 8:30 p.m. ET, according to radio play-by-play man Bob Irving.

Excited to get back in front of a CFL play by play mic with Doug Brown at my side, and can’t wait for Aug 5 and the greatly anticipated Hamilton-Wpg Grey Cup rematch.

Opening day on August 5 will mark the first CFL game since the 107th Grey Cup was played on November 24, 2019 — the Ticats lost to the Bombers 33-12 that day at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.

Star Canadian running back Andrew Harris ran 18 times for 134 yards — 7.4 yards per carry — and caught five passes for 35 yards. Overall, Harris totaled 169 offensive yard and two touchdowns.

The hometown hero was named the Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Canadian — the first time in Grey Cup history the same player won both awards — leading the Bombers to their first Grey Cup in 29 years. The draught in the Manitoba Capital ended thanks in large part to Harris.

All-star linebacker Simoni Lawrence and the Ticats defence will be focused on stopping Harris and extracting revenge for the 2019 CFL title game loss.
