Ticats owner Bob Young: 2021 will be ‘one of the most exciting seasons in CFL history’

Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ owner Bob Young expressed his enthusiasm regarding the CFL board of governor’s approval of a fourteen-game season to begin on August 5.

“Our team and our league are all about our fans, players, staffs and partners. We thank all of you for your passion, patience and perseverance. You’ve made today’s announcement possible,” said Young in a statement.

“It’s an exciting day and it’s time to talk about football on the field and what promises to be one of the most exciting seasons in CFL history, culminating in a historic Grey Cup played right where it should be, at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton.”

Hamilton has not hosted the Grey Cup since 1996 when Toronto defeated Edmonton in what some consider the best championship game in CFL history. The city hosted three of the first five Grey Cups ever played at the AAA Grounds but has hosted the game just twice since the end of the Second World War.

The 108th Grey Cup will be the first CFL championship game ever played at Tim Hortons Field, which replaced Ivor Wynne Stadium in 2014.

The full 2021 CFL schedule will be released Tuesday along with each team’s plan for distributing tickets to season ticket holders, and where government restrictions on stadium capacity allow, ticket sales to the general public. CFL training camps are scheduled to begin on July 10.

Opening day on August 5 will mark the first CFL game since the 107th Grey Cup was played on November 24, 2019.
