Brandon Banks says he will ‘retire’ if the CFL doesn’t play in 2021

Football fans across the country are frustrated with the uncertainty surrounding the 2021 CFL season. On Monday morning, the league’s reigning Most Outstanding Player took to Twitter to voice his displeasure.

The 33-year-old had his best CFL season in 2019, making 112 receptions for 1,550 yards and 13 touchdowns. Banks knows that he doesn’t have many years left to play football and wants to make the most of his talents before he’s too old to compete at the professional level.

Edmonton Sun reporter Gerry Moddejonge quoted an anonymous source this past week who said that a 2021 CFL season may not be “plausible,” suggesting the league could look to relaunch in 2022.

Rod Pedersen of The Rod Pedersen Show reported the following day that the league “intends to play in 2021,” though a June or July start is “off the table.”

Ottawa Redblacks’ punter Richie Leone echoed Banks’ sentiment by suggesting that 80 percent of the league’s players “would be done” if the CFL cancels its 2021 season. Banks disagrees — he believes that number would be 90 percent.
