Argos, Riders game delayed by lightning around Mosaic Stadium

The Canada Day game between the Argos and Riders has been delayed due to weather.

With one minute and 58 seconds left on the clock in the second quarter the Argos and Riders headed to their respective locker rooms for an early halftime break.

The break was needed for Toronto as Saskatchewan had jumped out to a 25-0 lead. Through nearly six quarters of Argos football in 2019, the boatmen have been outscored 89-14.

According to CFL protocol, if a team is leading by 17 points or more in the second quarter and the delay is more than three hours due to weather, the game will be considered final and the leading team will be awarded two points.

Monday night, the weather delay happened at 6:14 p.m. local time meaning the three-hour threshold will be met at 9:14 p.m. Central Standard Time.

That stipulation wasn’t needed. Fans returned to their seats, players the field and play resumed at approximately 10:20 p.m. EST.
