Argos to hire former Riders assistant GM John Murphy: report

The Toronto Argonauts seem set to hire former Saskatchewan Roughriders assistant general manager John Murphy.

The more people you speak with in #CFL circles, the more they tell you that former Riders assistant GM John Murphy will end up in Toronto with the Argos.

Murphy was asked by the Riders to take a pay cut and decided to leave the team instead after signing a contract extension through the 2019 season in December 2018.

Murphy joined the Riders before the 2016 season, coming over from the Calgary Stampeders when Chris Jones took over as head coach and general manager.

Saskatchewan issued a release on Murphy’s departure, saying he and the club agreed to “part ways.”

“On behalf of the Rider organization, I want to thank John for his three years of hard work and leadership with our football club,” said Riders vice president of football operations, general manager and head coach Chris Jones. “He is one of football’s top personnel men and was a big contributor to our success. He will remain a good friend of mine and I wish him all the best.”
