Anthony Calvillo plans to take 2018 away from football: report

The CFL’s all-time passing yards leader is likely going to take time away from football in 2018, according to Montreal Gazette reporter Herb Zurkowsky.

@acalvillo13 tells me his plan is to take a year away from coaching in 2018. That plan could change should a CIS team come calling, but he won't be a part of Mike Sherman's #AlsMTL staff. Calvillo, rightfully so, is "mentally exhaused" from the last 3 seasons with this team.

After a Hall of Fame playing career, Calvillo has spent the last three seasons as a coach with Montreal moving from receivers to offensive coordinator and overseeing quarterbacks the last two years.

@acalvillo13 does went to remain in the coaching game, in the future. For now, he's unsure what his plans are for 2018, but said he'll remain in the city of Montreal.

The 45-year-old played 16 seasons for the Alouettes, winning three Grey Cups and three Most Outstanding Player awards. Calvillo’s final numbers were impressive: 79,816 yards and 455 touchdowns, but that success as a player hasn’t been replicated as a mentor, yet.
