‘My spirit is great’: Riders’ QB Trevor Harris releases statement after suffering tibial plateau fracture

Saskatchewan Roughriders’ quarterback Trevor Harris took to his Instagram page to release a statement after suffering a tibial plateau fracture against the Calgary Stampeders this past weekend.

It’s easy to ask the question “why me?” I haven’t had to ask that question in a negative way for 14 years playing professional football. I have asked God “why me?” for the endless, countless blessings of good health, relationships formed and absolutely unmatched experiences playing football in this beautiful country with such amazing teammates and fans.

What a ride! Thank you to EVERYONE that has reached out. Rider nation, coaches, players, friends, fans, each person has lifted my spirits a little more. I’ve cried a lot, not because of pain or fear, more because I’m sad that this game is being taken away from me for now.

But I’m good, my spirit is great. I will heal up and grind through this like never before. Thank you again. The support has been felt! Big thank you to to the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ athletic therapists, team doctors for their swift, efficient and professional help! #ChristAlone

Harris suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game. He was tackled by Darius Williams on a second-down scramble but his right leg was struck by Derek Wiggan, who was rolling along the turf after attempting a diving tackle. Harris immediately grabbed his right leg in pain before being carted off the field.

Saskatchewan has named third-year quarterback Mason Fine as their starter for the foreseeable future. The club did not rule out Harris for the rest of the season, though he will have to undergo surgery.

The Riders acquired Harris in free agency, signing him to a two-year contract valued at over $1 million. He completed 67.1 percent of his pass attempts over five starts this season for 1,272 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions, posting a 3-2 record.

The Riders are next scheduled to visit the B.C. Lions (4-1) on Saturday, July 22 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
