Byron Archambault replaces Jeff Reinebold as Alouettes special teams coordinator due to personal matters

After just four months on the job, Montreal Alouettes special teams coordinator Jeff Reinebold is stepping aside due to personal matters and is being replaced by linebackers coach Byron Archambault.

“We are very fortunate that Byron was on our coaching staff last season and part of our football operations department, so he has great knowledge about our players. We are convinced that he will elevate our special teams,” Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia said in a statement.

Reinebold took the Alouettes job in January after departing the Hamilton Tiger-Cats where he served in the same capacity from 2013-2016 and again from 2019-2021. He has spent time with multiple CFL teams, including a two-year head coach stint with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1997 and 1998.

Archambault, a second-round pick of the Ticats in the 2015 CFL Draft, retired from football due to injuries in 2017 and immediately began his coaching career as the special teams coordinator with the Université de Montréal Carabins where he was until 2019.  The unit was among the most productive in Canada under his tutelage during that time.

The 31-year-old Archambault was hired by the Als in 2020 as the team’s director of national scouting before being given a role as a defensive assistant last season.
