The Montreal Alouettes have released offensive lineman Jamar McGloster and returner James Letcher Jr.

McGloster started 14 regular-season games for the Alouettes at right tackle in 2025, though he was benched in favour of rookie Tiger Shanks before the playoffs. He spent the last three seasons with Montreal, dressing for 26 regular-season games and helping the team win the Grey Cup in 2023.

The six-foot-seven, 305-pound native of Hillside, N.J. started his CFL career with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2019, though he was released relatively early that season. He then had stints with the Ottawa Redblacks and B.C. Lions, dressing for five regular-season games with the former in 2021.

McGloster has also had NFL stints with the San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Chargers, and Oakland Raiders.

Letcher Jr. was limited to nine regular-season games in 2025 due to injury and was scratched by the Montreal Alouettes for the 112th Grey Cup. He returned 39 punts for 428 yards, returned 19 kickoffs for 476 yards, and caught five passes for 42 yards and one touchdown.

The five-foot-seven, 180-pound speedster was Montreal’s nominee for Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2024 after recording 1,112 kickoff return yards and 924 punt return yards. He led the league in combined return yards and scored two touchdowns, one on a punt return and one on a missed field goal return.

The 26-year-old joined the Alouettes as a rookie in 2023 and played four games in place of an injured Chandler Worthy. He also recorded four receptions for 21 yards and three carries for 25 yards that year.

Letcher Jr. has reportedly agreed to terms on a contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Montreal Alouettes finished second in the East Division standings in 2025 with a 10-8 record and beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East Final before losing the 112th Grey Cup to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Davis Alexander went 7-0 as a starter during the regular-season, though he missed 11 games due to a hamstring injury.

The Alouettes ranked eighth in net offence, first in net defence, and third with a turnover differential of plus-eight. The club’s leading rusher was Stevie Scott III with 418 yards, leading receiver was Tyler Snead with 1,129 yards, and leading tackler was Darnell Sankey with 103 tackles. Montreal finished sixth in attendance with average crowds of 21,132, which was a 0.8 percent decrease from the previous year.
