Former CFL head coach Corey Chamblin is extending his tenure in the United Football League with a new organization, joining the St. Louis Battlehawks as their defensive coordinator.
Chamblin has been a part of the spring league circuit since 2022, when he was hired as defensive backs coach by the Birmingham Stallions and won the USFL championship. He jumped to the same position with the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL the following year. When the two leagues merged, the Birmingham native returned to his hometown Stallions as defensive coordinator and safeties coach, winning the UFL title in 2024.
The 48-year-old served as the head coach of the Toronto Argonauts in 2019, but was fired after the team went 4-14 during his first year at the helm. He served as the club’s defensive coordinator in 2017 when Toronto upset the Calgary Stampeders by a score of 27-24 in the 105th Grey Cup.
Chamblin broke into the CFL as the defensive backs coach with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2007 and climbed the coaching ranks quickly, becoming the head coach of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2012. He led the Riders to three consecutive playoff appearances and a Grey Cup title in 2013, but was fired at the midway point of the 2015 season after the club started the year 0-9.
The 2026 UFL season is slated to begin on March 27 and will conclude on June 13. The Battlehawks are led by head coach Ricky Proehl, a former NFL receiver.
