Canadian defensive back Jonathan Sutherland has signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, 3DownNation has confirmed with his agent.

The native of Ottawa, Ont. attended training camp with the New York Giants last season but was released with an injury designation. He remained a free agent until the Raiders recently came calling.

Sutherland originally signed with the Seattle Seahawks after going unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft. He spent most of his rookie year on the team’s practice roster and didn’t dress for any regular-season games. Sutherland was released by the Seahawks in 2024 around the start of training camp.

The five-foot-eleven, 202-pound defender was a first-round pick of the Montreal Alouettes in the 2023 CFL Draft out of Penn State University. As such, the Alouettes hold his CFL rights in perpetuity. He has yet to sign a CFL contract.

Sutherland ran a 4.58-second forty-yard dash at his pro day in March 2023. He also leaped 37.5 inches in the vertical jump, 123 inches in the broad jump, ran a 4.13-second short shuttle, a 6.87-second three-cone drill, and put up 25 reps of 225 pounds on the bench.

While playing for the Nittany Lions, he made 136 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery over 56 collegiate games. He was a four-time team captain.
