The Calgary Stampeders have signed American defensive back Josh Thomas to their training camp roster.

The six-foot, 205-pound defender appeared in 56 games over the course of a prolific collegiate career at Appalachian State, racking up 163 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He earned first-team All-Sun Belt honours from Pro Football Focus as a senior in 2019, earning the second-highest grade of any Group of Five safety.

Thomas went unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft and signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent. The 27-year-old appeared in four games as a practice squad elevation over two seasons with the team, recording five tackles. He later spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers.

The Stampeders will open the 2024 regular season on Friday, June 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at McMahon Stadium.
