The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American defensive lineman Anthony Lanier II to a one-year contract extension, tying him to the team through 2024. He was set to become a free agent next month.
The six-foot-six, 285-pound defender played 14 games last season, recording 19 tackles, two tackles for loss, five sacks, one pass knockdown, and one fumble recovery. He started at both defensive end and defensive tackle and was the highest-paid defensive lineman in the entire CFL.
The 30-year-old first joined the Riders as a free agent in 2021 and has since made 51 tackles, 14 sacks, and two forced fumbles over 35 games in Riderville.
The native of Savannah, Ga. spent five seasons in the NFL as a member of the Washington Football Team, Los Angeles Chargers, and Kansas City Chiefs. He played 15 career games with two starts and recorded 14 total tackles, five tackles for loss, six pass knockdowns, five sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.
CFL free agency is set to get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at noon EST.
