The Edmonton Elks have signed Canadian defensive tackle Sam Acheampongto a one-year extension.
The 27-year-old was acquired by the Elks in a trade with the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft and a player from the negotiation list, Xavier Gipson. He played 12 games for the Green and Gold after the move, registering 15 defensive tackles and one sack.
The native of Brampton, Ont. was originally selected in the second round of the 2020 CFL Draft by Toronto. In 42 career CFL games, he has amassed 50 tackles and four sacks.
Prior to his time in the CFL, the six-foot-five, 270-pound defender played five seasons at Wilfrid Laurier University (2015-19), where he was named an OUA first-team All-Star in his final year.
