Duron Carter posted about the CFL for the first time in months on Saturday when a fan reached out to inquire about his current whereabouts.
Carter is now the head coach at North Palm Beach Prep, whose first game of the 2021 season is slated for Saturday. He was originally hired as the program’s director of player personnel and receivers coach in May, but was promoted to the role of head coach at the start of August.
“Well apparently I’m not good enough to play in the @cfl,” he tweeted on Saturday, referencing the fact that he’s been a free agent since he was released by the B.C. Lions in November 2019.
North Palm Beach Prep is located in Port Saint Lucie, Fla. The school develops elite athletes to help reach their potential on the field as well as in the classroom. Carter has helped recruit and coach players who are looking to draw scholarships from top college football programs.
Carter played 91 career games over six seasons in the CFL (2013-14, 2016-19), making 343 catches for 4,764 yards with 30 touchdowns. He was named a league all-star twice, once with the Montreal Alouettes and once with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
The native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. had his best campaign in 2017 when he led Saskatchewan with 1,043 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, including one on defence. He earned Saskatchewan’s Most Outstanding Player award while making plays as a receiver and defensive back.
Carter played in four NFL pre-season games with the Indianapolis Colts in 2015, making nine receptions for 126 yards. He spent the entire season on the practice roster before returning to the CFL the following season.
The son of Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver Cris Carter was an uber-talented player and will look to pass down his knowledge of the game to the next emerging stars at North Palm Beach Prep.
