Toronto Argonauts’ head coach Ryan Dinwiddie is sticking with McLeod Bethel-Thompson to start the team’s upcoming game at quarterback against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The decision was made because the Argos are on a short week and how well Bethel-Thompson played in Week 1 versus the Calgary Stampeders. The 33-year-old journeyman started the game due to Nick Arbuckle’s lingering hamstring issue.
Bethel-Thompson outdueled Bo Levi Mitchell in a 23-20 victory for the Argos at McMahon Stadium, completing 26-of-37 pass attempts for 354 yards and two touchdowns while rushing four times for 24 yards. He is currently ranked No. 1 on 3DownNation’s MOP Watch.
The six-foot-four, 220-pound QB led the CFL in touchdown passes with 26 back in 2019, whiled also tossing 13 interceptions in 13 starts for the Boatmen. He completed 68 percent of his passes for 4,024 yards.
The Argonauts (1-0) and Blue Bombers (1-0) play at IG Field this upcoming Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
