New York Jets promote Canadian scout Matt Yustin

The New York Jets have promoted Canadian scout Matt Yustin to the role of pro/college scout, he announced on social media. He originally joined the team in 2024 as a scouting intern.

The Toronto native got his first personnel job in the United States at the University of Florida in 2021 when he was hired as a recruiting assistant. He was promoted three times, finishing his tenure with the Gators as their college personnel coordinator.

Yustin held various roles in Canadian football prior to heading down south, most recently with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He was hired as a scouting assistant in 2019 before becoming a U.S. regional scout, then the team’s manager of player personnel.

His first CFL job came with the Toronto Argonauts as a scouting assistant in 2016, a role he held for a little over three years. The team won the Grey Cup in his first year with the organization.

Yustin also served as a quality control assistant and video assistant at Western University for part of this time, helping the Mustangs win the Vanier Cup in 2017.

Other Canadians working for NFL personnel departments include Buffalo Bills pro scout Vince Magri, New York Giants director of pro scouting Chris Rossetti, and Buffalo Bills director of scouting Curtis Rukavina.

The Jets finished fourth in the AFC East standings in 2025 with a record of 3-14. The team recently selected outside linebacker David Bailey with the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft out of Texas Tech University.
