Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Corey Mace named 2025 CFL Coach of the Year

Corey Mace has won the Annis Stukus award as the 2025 CFL Coach of the Year.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ head coach beat out East Division finalist Jason Maas from the Montreal Alouettes by a 39-14 margin. 53 members of the Football Reporters of Canada and CFL head coaches submitted ballots.

It is the 40-year-old’s first Coach of the Year award after being nominated in back-to-back seasons. He is the eighth Saskatchewan coach to receive the honour, and first since Chris Jones in 2018.

In his second year at the helm of the Riders, Mace led the team to a CFL-best 12-6 regular season record and captured the franchise’s ninth West Division title. Saskatchewan allowed the fewest points (22.7) and rushing yards (76.0) per game in the CFL, while registering the second-best net offence (382.6 yards per game).

“Corey leads with authenticity, consistency and a clear understanding of not only the team, but also the Saskatchewan Roughriders organization and our community,” general manager Jeremy O’Day said in a statement.

“From day one, he dedicated himself to bringing the Club its fifth Grey Cup championship, building strong relationships with our players and creating an environment where they can succeed. He’s been outstanding for our organization and a key part of our success.”

While Coach of the Year voting is based exclusively on regular-season accomplishments, the Port Moody, B.C. native went on to lead the Roughriders to victory over the Montreal Alouettes in the 112th Grey Cup. It marked the fifth CFL title in franchise history.

Prior to joining the Roughriders in 2024, Mace served two seasons as defensive coordinator with the Toronto Argonauts. He previously spent five seasons as defensive line coach for the Calgary Stampeders, where he also played for six years as a defensive tackle.
