Toronto Argonauts sign first-round CFL draft pick Enock Makonzo, one other

The Toronto Argonauts have signed Canadian defensive back Enock Makonzo and American receiver Dymere Miller.

Makonzo was originally selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2022 CFL Draft by the Edmonton Elks. He played 22 regular-season games over two years with the club at strong-side linebacker and recorded 67 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, two sacks, and two forced fumbles.

The five-foot-ten, 189-pound native of Lachine, Que. was cut by the Elks in in 2024 and has since had stints with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, though he’s been unable to play due to injury.

The 28-year-old played collegiately at Coastal Carolina University where he made 150 total tackles, 21.5 for loss, two sacks, five forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries over 27 games. He originally started his collegiate career at the New Mexico Military Institute.

Miller had a stint with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2025, though he didn’t see any regular-season action with the team.

The five-foot-eleven, 184-pound target finished his collegiate career at Rutgers University where he made 59 catches for 757 yards and four touchdowns over 13 games.

The native of Coatesville, Pa. played three seasons at Monmouth University, recording 168 receptions for 2,387 yards and 17 touchdowns. He set several single-season school records and was named an FCS All-American in 2023.

The Toronto Argonauts finished third in the East Division standings in 2025 with a 5-13 record, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2019. Franchise quarterback Chad Kelly was unable to play all season due to a fractured leg he suffered in the East Final the previous year, giving way to Nick Arbuckle, who threw for 4,370 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions to be named the team’s candidate for Most Outstanding Player.

The Argonauts ranked seventh in net offence, sixth in net defence, and seventh with a turnover differential of minus-eight. The club’s leading rusher was Spencer Brown with 314 yards, leading receiver was Dejon Brissett with 907 yards, and leading tackler was Cameron Judge with 79 tackles. Toronto ranked ninth in attendance with average crowds of 15,109, which was a 0.1 percent decrease from the previous year.
