Sean Payton promotes former CFLer Logan Kilgore to quarterbacks coach with Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos’ head coach Sean Payton has promoted former CFLer Logan Kilgore to be the quarterbacks coach with his team.

Kilgore had been Denver’s offensive quality control coach since March 2023.

The 35-year-old signed with the Toronto Argonauts in 2015 and appeared in 19 games with the team over two seasons. He threw for 728 yards, two touchdowns, and ten interceptions along with five carries for 23 yards prior to his release in April 2017. He signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats but was cut two months later after appearing in six games.

The six-foot-three, 205-pound passer signed with Edmonton in 2019 and started four contests, throwing for 1,199 yards, six touchdowns, and nine interceptions. His stint with Edmonton is perhaps best remembered for a hit he received from Odell Willis that caused his tongue to bleed.

Kilgore entered the coaching ranks under Butch Jones as an offensive assistant at Arkansas State University during the 2021 NCAA season. He spent 2022 as the offensive coordinator at Newman High School where he coached phenom quarterback Arch Manning, Peyton and Eli’s nephew. The 17-year-old was the No. 1-ranked recruit in the country and now starts at QB at the University of Texas.

The Broncos produced a 14-3 record in the regular season to earn the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. Denver beat the Buffalo Bills 33-30 in the AFC Divisional Round, but lost 10-7 to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. Starting QB Bo Nix missed that game due to a broken bone in his foot, which ended his season prematurely and likely hindered the team’s chances for going to the Super Bowl.
