Hamilton Tiger-Cats agree to terms with veteran offensive tackle Eric Lofton

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have agreed to terms with American offensive lineman Eric Lofton, sources have confirmed to 3DownNation. Barring anything unforeseen, he’s expected to sign with the team. The Canadian Press was the first to report.

After starting 18 games at right tackle for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2024, Lofton was limited to just one appearance last year and spent much of the season on the six-game injured list.

Lofton signed his first CFL contract with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2017 and dressed for one game. He played another three matchups with the team the following season before leaving for the Edmonton Elks.

The 32-year-old native of Lumberton, N.J., dressed for two games with Edmonton in 2019 but didn’t play in 2020 due to the cancellation of the CFL season. He remained a free agent throughout the 2021 season before joining the Blue Bombers in 2022, making one start at right tackle.

In 2023, the Temple University product signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and started 12 games at left tackle and two at right tackle.

Pending CFL free agents can negotiate with teams across the league during the communication window, which closes on Sunday, February 8. Players can agree to terms on a contract with a particular franchise; however, the deals are not legally binding and can’t be made official until after free agency opens on Tuesday, February 10.
