Calgary Stampeders release veteran Aaron Crawford, sign two

The Calgary Stampeders have released Canadian long snapper Aaron Crawford, who was under contract for 2026.

The 39-year-old native of Medicine Hat, Alta. played three regular-season games with the team in 2025, though he underwent knee surgery in September.

Originally a sixth-round pick in the 2012 CFL Draft out of Saint Mary’s University, Crawford has played 166 career regular-season CFL games as a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Stampeders. He has recorded two defensive tackles and 39 special teams tackles.

The Stampeders have also signed American receiver Rashod Owens and American linebacker Tyreem Powell.

Owens attended training camp with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2025 and recorded three catches for 25 yards during the preseason, though he was waived before the start of the regular-season.

The six-foot-two, 200-pound native of San Antonio, Texas played collegiately at Oklahoma State University, where he made 120 receptions for 1,771 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Powell attended training camp with the New Orleans Saints in 2025 and made three tackles during the preseason, though he was waived before the start of the regular-season.

The six-foot-four, 249-pound native of Vineland, N.J. played collegiately at Rutgers University, where he made 201 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 10 pass knockdowns, five sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception over 43 games.
