Longtime CFL offensive lineman Val St. Germain has been selected for induction into the Ottawa Sport Hall of Fame.

The 54-year-old played 15 seasons at the professional level as a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Edmonton Football Team, Ottawa Renegades, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Saskatchewan Roughriders.

St. Germain was named All-East Division with the Tiger-Cats in 1998, All-West Division with Edmonton in 1999, and All-East Division with Ottawa in 2003. He won one Grey Cup as a member of the Roughriders in 2007.

The six-foot-three, 300-pound blocker was selected with the first overall pick in the 1994 CFL Draft out of McGill University, where he was a two-time U Sports All-Canadian and the school’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Since his retirement as a player, St. Germain has coached the Carleton University, Nepean Eagles, and St. Joseph Jaguars. He was also recently presented with the CFL Alumni Association’s (CFLAA) Indigenous Champion Award for advancing Indigenous representation within the game and community.

St. Germain will be inducted alongside curlers Rachel Homan and Emma Miskew, hockey player Jason York, community builder Keith Brown, the 1976 Centennial Cup champion Rockland Nationals, and eight more historical honourees.

The induction ceremony will take place at the Lansdowne Park’s Horticultural Building on Wednesday, May 27.
