The Houston Texans are signing Canadian receiver Jared Wayne and Canadian offensive lineman Sidy Sow to future reserve contracts, according to KPRC2 reporter Aaron Wilson.
Wayne spent most of the 2025 season on Houston’s practice roster. He started one game in October and caught two passes for 20 yards, helping the Texans defeat the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 26-15.
The native of Peterborough, Ont. originally joined Houston as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and spent most of his first two NFL seasons on the team’s practice roster. He dressed for three regular-season games in 2024 but didn’t make any receptions.
The six-foot-three, 210-pound target had a highly productive collegiate career at the University of Pittsburgh, making 146 catches for 2,308 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was named second-team All-ACC with the Panthers in his final year of eligibility.
The 25-year-old’s CFL rights belong to the Toronto Argonauts, who selected him in the second round of the 2023 CFL Draft.
Sow joined the Texans in September as a member of their practice roster. He eventually was promoted to the active roster and made one start, as per Pro Football Reference.
The six-foot-five, 318-pound blocker was released by the New England Patriots at the conclusion of training camp in August. He was originally selected by the team in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He started 13 games as a rookie, then took on a reduced role in 2024 with just one start in 12 appearances.
The native of Bromont, Que. spent six collegiate seasons with Eastern Michigan University whee he made 54 career starts, setting an all-time school record. He was named third-team All-Mid-American Conference in 2020 and first-team All-Mid-American Conference in 2021 and 2022.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders own Sow’s CFL rights in perpetuity after they selected him in the sixth round of the 2023 CFL Draft.
The Texans were eliminated from NFL playoff contention on Sunday following a 28-16 loss to the New England Patriots in the NFL Divisional Round.
