Saskatchewan Roughriders sign CFL all-star LB Jameer Thurman to contract extension through 2027

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American linebacker  Jameer Thurman to a one-year extension through the 2027 season. He was already signed for the 2026 CFL season.

The six-foot, 230-pound Thurman earned his first CFL all-star selection in 2025 while helping the Riders win the 112th Grey Cup, including registering a CFL championship game high 11 tackles. He ranked sixth in the three-down league with 86 defensive tackles, tied for eighth in total defensive plays with 100, and recorded three interceptions, three sacks, three pass knockdowns, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

The soon-to-be 31-year-old earned his first career West Division all-star selection in 2024, following his first season with the Roughriders. He played 17 regular-season games for Saskatchewan that year, registering 76 defensive tackles, three tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, two special teams tackles, one sack, two interceptions — including one returned 28 yards for a touchdown in Week 3 — one forced fumble, and one pass knockdown.

Thurman joined the Riders through CFL free agency after spending the 2023 season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He collected 98 defensive tackles, five sacks, four pass knockdowns, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, one tackle for loss, and one fumble recovery.

Prior to signing with the Ticats, Thurman played four seasons (2017-2018, 2021-2022) with the Calgary Stampeders. He played 64 regular season games with the Stamps, recording 267 defensive tackles, 31 special teams tackles, eight forced fumbles, six sacks, and six interceptions. The veteran LB won a Grey Cup with Calgary in 2018.

Thurman signed with the Chicago Bears in January 2019 and made 16 tackles in the preseason.
