The Saskatchewan Roughriders have re-signed Canadian defensive back Tevaughn Campbell for the 2026 season. He was a pending free agent.
The six-foot, 200-pound defender has a brilliant season in 2025, recording 18 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, six interceptions, four pass knockdowns, one fumble recovery, and one touchdown over 13 regular-season games. He tied for the league lead in interceptions, was named All-CFL, and helped Saskatchewan win the Grey Cup over the Montreal Alouettes.
The native of Scarborough, Ont. spent six seasons in the NFL from 2019 to 2024 as a member of the New York Jets, Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Jacksonville Jaguars. He recorded 65 total tackles, seven pass knockdowns, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one interception over 37 regular-season games down south, making 11 starts.
The 32-year-old was originally selected with a third-round pick in the 2015 CFL Draft by the Calgary Stampeders and made seven defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, and one pass knockdown as a rookie. He was traded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders the following offseason in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick and played 15 games, making 12 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, six pass knockdowns, one interception, one sack, and two fumble recoveries.
The University of Regina product was traded to the Montreal Alouettes in 2017 as part of a deal that included quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. He made 34 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, seven pass knockdowns, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery over two years in La Belle Province.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders finished first in the West Division standings in 2025 with a 12-6 record, finishing first in the West Division for the first time since 2019. The team went on to defeat the Montreal Alouettes in the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg, marking the team’s first championship in 12 years. Trevor Harris went 11-5 as a starter, throwing for 4,549 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
The Roughriders ranked second in net offence, second in net defence, and tied for third with a turnover differential of plus-eight. The club’s leading rusher was A.J. Ouellette with 1,222 yards, leading receiver was KeeSean Johnson with 1,159 yards, and leading tackler was A.J. Allen with 91 tackles. Saskatchewan finished second in attendance with average crowds of 28,427, which was a 2.7 percent increase from the previous year.
