Minnesota Vikings ink Calgary Stampeders LB Jacob Roberts to NFL futures contract

The Minnesota Vikings have signed Calgary Stampeders linebacker Jacob Roberts to an NFL futures contract, per sources.

The Charlotte, N.C. native led the team with 93 defensive tackles in 2025, while adding nine special teams tackles, four sacks, and one forced fumble in his first year as a CFL starter. He joined the Stamps partway through the 2024 season and dressed for six games, recording four defensive tackles and 10 special teams tackles.

The 24-year-old defender has no previous NFL experience after going undrafted in 2024 and signing directly with Calgary. He concluded his NCAA career at Wake Forest University, collecting 83 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, six sacks, and two forced fumbles in 12 games.

Roberts transferred from North Carolina A&T State University, where he was a three-time second-team all-conference selection — once in the MEAC and twice in the Big South. In 32 games with the Aggies, he notched 218 tackles, 29.5 tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups, 9.5 sacks, five interceptions, six blocked kicks, and two defensive touchdowns.

Minnesota was the only NFL team Roberts worked out for in the offseason. The six-foot-one, 233-pound defender was scheduled to become a free agent on Tuesday, February 10, which means the Stampeders will not retain his CFL rights in 2026. Should he be released after that date, he will be eligible to sign with any team on either side of the border.

The Vikings narrowly missed the NFL playoffs, finishing third in the NFC North with a 9-8 record.
