The Los Angeles Chargers have released Canadian tight end Tanner McLachlan from their practice roster for the third time in a month.

The native of Lethbridge, Alta., was originally signed to the practice roster on December 11. He was released in a strategic roster move on December 16, only for him to be brought back on December 18. The same thing happened on Christmas Eve, with McLachlan rejoining the team on Boxing Day. It remains to be seen how long this particular release will last.

The six-foot-five, 244-pound was a sixth-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2024 NFL Draft. He played two regular-season games as a rookie, seeing the field for five offensive snaps and 17 special teams snaps. The 26-year-old was waived with an injury designation as part of final roster cuts at the end of training camp this season.

McLachlan finished his collegiate career at the University of Arizona, where he made 79 receptions for 984 yards and six touchdowns in two seasons. McLachlan started his collegiate career at Southern Utah University, where he caught 15 passes for 168 yards and two scores.

The Calgary Stampeders hold McLachlan’s exclusive CFL rights as he was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 CFL Draft.

The Chargers finished the regular season second in the AFC West with an 11-6 record. They are scheduled to face the New England Patriots (14-3) in the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs on Sunday, January 11, at 8:00 p.m. EST.
