Staying home: B.C. Lions re-sign local LB Adam Konar through 2027

The B.C. Lions have signed Canadian linebacker Adam Konar to a two-year extension that will keep him with the team through 2027.

The 32-year-old rejoined the Lions in 2025 for a second stint with his hometown team. He appeared in 14 games, making two defensive tackles and nine special teams tackles before suffering a season-ending injury.

“Adam has proven his worth, on and off the field, for ten years,” general manager Ryan Rigmaiden said in a statement.

“He’s an ultimate ‘glue guy,’ whose leadership and toughness are on display every week.”

The native of Vancouver was originally selected in the third round, 25th overall, in the 2015 CFL Draft by Edmonton. In 132 career CFL games with the Elks, Calgary Stampeders, and Lions, the six-foot-two, 225-pound defender has amassed 226 defensive tackles, 53 special teams tackles, five sacks, four interceptions, and four forced fumbles.

Konar attended the University of British Columbia before transferring to the University of Calgary, where he was named a first-team All-Canadian in his senior season. He played high school football at Vancouver College and MVP honours in the BC Provincial championship game in 2010.

The B.C. Lions finished second in the West Division standings in 2025 with an 11-7 record and beat the Calgary Stampeders in the West Semi-Final before losing the West Final to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Nathan Rourke threw for 5,290 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions over 16 regular-season starts, posting an 11-5 record. He was also named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player.

The Lions ranked first in net offence, fourth in net defence, and sixth with a turnover differential of minus-four. James Butler rushed for 1,213 yards, Keon Hatcher led the CFL with 1,688 receiving yards, and Micah Awe led the league with 117 tackles. B.C. finished third in attendance with average crowds of 27,124, which was a 0.9 percent increase from the previous year.
