The Minnesota Vikings worked out Montreal Alouettes running back Travis Theis on Wednesday, per the NFL’s transaction wire.
Theis appeared in 12 games as a rookie with the Alouettes, carving out a versatile role on offence and special teams. He carried the ball 70 times for 365 yards, while adding 19 receptions for 165 yards. The 24-year-old also returned 19 kickoffs for 364 yards, as well as 13 punts for 175 yards and a touchdown.
The five-foot-11, 215-pound back was a star over six seasons at the University of South Dakota, racking up 3,666 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns in 56 games for the ‘Yotes. He also added 915 yards and two majors through the air, earning first-team all-conference honours as a senior in 2024.
The native of Pratt, Kan., has never signed an NFL contract, going undrafted in 2025 and attending rookie mini-camp with the Denver Broncos. This was his first NFL workout of the offseason.
The NFL workout window opened on Monday, November 17. The window to sign with an NFL team opens January 5, 2026, and ends February 10, 2026, at 12:01 p.m. EST.
NFL teams must ask CFL franchises for permission to work out players, and the request cannot be denied. CFL players can opt out of their agreements north of the border if an NFL team offers a contract, though their CFL team maintains their rights through the duration of the voided contract. Theis has one more year on his current deal with Montreal.
The Vikings (5-8) will visit the Dallas Cowboys (6-6-1) on Sunday, December 14, at 8:20 p.m. EST.
