The Minnesota Vikings worked out Calgary Stampeders linebacker Jacob Roberts on Tuesday. KPRC Houston reporter Aaron Wilson was the first to report.
The native of Charlotte, N.C. made 93 defensive tackles, nine special teams tackles, four sacks, and one forced fumble in 2025, which was his first year as a CFL starter.
The 24-year-old defender has no previous NFL experience, having signed straight from Wake Forest University to the Stampeders in 2024.
Roberts was twice named second-team All-Big South during his collegiate stint at North Carolina A&T State University.
Minnesota also worked out Winnipeg Blue Bombers kick returner Trey Vaval.
The 25-year-old was recently named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player. He led the league in punt return yards (957), missed field goal return yards (391), and kick return touchdowns (four) in 2025, while also finishing third in all-purpose yards (2,266) and fifth in kickoff return yards (918).
The five-foot-eleven, 171-pound speedster set a single-game CFL record with 199 missed field goal return yards in a 26-18 win over the Ottawa Redblacks in September. He also started four games at cornerback over the course of the season, recording 21 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, and one interception.
The native of Blue Springs, Mo. attended training camp with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024 but was released at its conclusion.
Vaval finished his collegiate career at Minnesota State University, where he recorded 69 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 14 pass knockdowns, five blocked kicks, two interceptions, two touchdowns, and one sack over 25 games.
At his pro day, Vaval reportedly ran a 4.51-second forty-yard dash along with a 4.25-second shuttle and 6.90-second three-cone. He also recorded eight reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, a 37-inch vertical jump, and 10-foot, eight-inch broad jump.
The Vikings currently sit fourth in the NFC North standings with a record of 5-8.
The Calgary Stampeders finished third in the West Division standings in 2025 with an 11-7 record but lost the West Semi-Final to the B.C. Lions. Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 4,247 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions over 17 regular-season starts, posting a 11-6 record.
The Stampeders ranked fourth in net offence, seventh in net defence, and second with a turnover differential of plus-nine. Dedrick Mills won the CFL’s rushing title with 1,409 yards, while the team’s leading receiver was Dominique Rhymes with 886 yards, and leading tackler was Jacob Roberts with 102 tackles. Calgary finished fifth in attendance with average crowds of 22,295, which was a 3.5 percent increase from the previous year.
