Calgary Stampeders bring back three 2025 CFL Draft picks, including two first-team All-Canadians

The Calgary Stampeders have brought back a trio of picks from the 2025 CFL Draft, all of whom received major accolades after returning to school for their final university season.

Rejoining the team after they were released in training camp are offensive lineman Matt Stokman, defensive lineman Max Von Muehldorfer, and defensive back Ashton Miller-Melancon.

Stokman was selected with the 56th overall pick in the seventh round out of the University of Manitoba. The six-foot-three, 322-pound bruiser played 44 games over six seasons with the Bisons, making 34 starts, including 32 at right guard. The Winnipeg, Man., native was named a Canada West all-star and first-team All-Canadian in 2025 after helping Manitoba lead the conference in rushing yards per game.

Von Muehldorfer was taken five spots later in the same round, 61st overall, out of Western University. In 31 games over five seasons with the Mustangs, the native of Calgary, Alta., collected 64 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. The six-foot-one, 290-pound defensive tackle was named an OUA all-star and first-team All-Canadian in 2025 after producing 20.5 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble this season.

Miller-Melancon was the first pick of the eighth round, 65th overall, out of Queen’s University. The six-foot-two, 199-pound halfback accumulated 175 career tackles in 48 games for the Golden Gaels, adding 19 interceptions, 29 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. He was named an OUA all-star for the fourth time in five seasons in 2025, having previously received All-Canadian recognition in 2022.

The Calgary Stampeders finished third in the West Division standings in 2025 with an 11-7 record, but lost the West Semi-Final to the B.C. Lions. Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 4,247 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions over 17 regular-season starts, posting an 11-6 record.

The Stampeders ranked fourth in net offence, seventh in net defence, and second with a turnover differential of plus-nine. Dedrick Mills won the CFL’s rushing title with 1,409 yards, while the team’s leading receiver was Dominique Rhymes with 886 yards, and the leading tackler was Jacob Roberts with 102 tackles. Calgary finished fifth in attendance with average crowds of 22,295, which was a 3.5 percent increase from the previous year.
