Toronto Argonauts interview QB coach Mike Miller, REC coach Pete Costanza for head coaching job

The Toronto Argonauts have interviewed quarterbacks coach Mike Miller and receivers coach Pete Costanza for their vacant head coaching position, 3DownNation has confirmed. The news was first reported by TSN.

Miller has spent the past four seasons in Toronto, helping McLeod Bethel-Thompson and Nick Arbuckle win Grey Cups as starters and Chad Kelly win the M.O.P. The 55-year-old native of Pittsburgh, Pa., has almost 30 years of coaching experience, including stints as the offensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals (2011-12) and assistant head coach and offensive coordinator of the Montreal Alouettes (2013).

Costanza has spent the past five seasons as the receivers coach and pass game coordinator for the Argos, producing career years from DaVaris Daniels, Kurleigh Gittens Jr., Damonte Coxie, Dejon Brissett, David Ungerer III, Makai Polk, Jake Herslow, and Kevin Mital in his tenure. The 55-year-old was a long-time receivers coach with the Calgary Stampeder (2008-2019) prior to a brief stint as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ running backs coach in 2021. He has won six Grey Cups with three CFL franchises.

According to 3DownNationsources, as many as a half a dozen people have been interviewed for the Argos’ head coach job, including several other members of staff. The team unsuccessfully tried to woo current Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ head coach Mike O’Shea for the job, and has also reportedly targeted former Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Kent Austin.

The job became available after Ryan Dinwiddie, the team’s two-time Grey Cup-winning head coach, left for the Ottawa Redblacks in order to become head coach and general manager.

The Argonauts finished third in the East Division standings in 2025 with a 5-13 record, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2019. Kelly was unable to play all season due to a fractured leg he suffered in the East Final in 2024. Nick Arbuckle threw for 4,370 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions to be named the team’s Most Outstanding Player.

Toronto ranked seventh in net offence, sixth in net defence, and seventh with a turnover differential of minus-eight. The team’s leading rusher was Spencer Brown with 314 yards, the leading receiver was Dejon Brissett with 907 yards, and the leading tackler was Cameron Judge with 79 tackles. The Argos ranked ninth in attendance with 15,109 average fans at BMO Field, which was a 0.1 percent decrease from the previous year.
