Saskatchewan LB, Riders CFL Draft pick Seth Hundeby wins Presidents’ Trophy as top U Sports defender

Published on

University of Saskatchewan linebacker Seth Hundeby has been awarded the Presidents’ Trophy as the top stand-up defensive player in Canadian university football.

The six-foot-three, 245-pound backer was all over the field for the Huskies in seven regular-season games, making 41.5 total tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles, and two interceptions. Across four playoff games, he has added 19.5 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

The Saskatoon, Sask. native is the fourth Saskatchewan product to win the award in U Sports history, joining Nelson Lokombo (2019), Mike Letendre (1999), and Warren Muzika (1998). He beat out Laurier linebacker Jessie Wilkins, Laval linebacker Justin Cloutier, and St. FX linebacker Owen Watrych.

Hundeby was selected 34th overall in the fourth round during the 2025 CFL Draft with the understanding he would be returning to school to complete his engineering degree. He was one of the top performers at the CFL Combine in March, running a 4.70 forty-yard dash, a 4.15 short-shuttle, and a 6.88 three-cone despite his massive frame.

Across 52 total U Sports games, Hundeby has collected 221 total tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, six forced fumbles, and two interceptions.

The Saskatchewan Huskies and Montreal Carabins meet in the Vanier Cup at Mosaic Stadium in Regina on Saturday, November 22. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. EST on CBC.
