Blue Bombers’ nihilistic social media post goes viral after Roughriders win Grey Cup in Winnipeg

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers fell short of the Grey Cup for the first time in over a half-decade but the team made an impact in the immediate aftermath of the 112th Grey Cup as the Saskatchewan Roughriders defeated the Montreal Alouettes by a score of 25-17.

The social media team in Bomberland is certainly strong and arguably the best in the CFL. Sunday was no exception as moments after their hated rival won the Grey Cup on Winnipeg’s turf, the Blue Bombers posted the following message.

“Well at least the sun will explode one day and none of this will matter,” the team wrote. We’ve taken some liberties with the punctuation as the original message didn’t start with a capitalized letter.

The post was viewed well over a quarter-million times on Twitter/X in its first 12 hours and garnered hundreds of comments and shares on Facebook.

Winnipeg’s nihilism is understandable given that the team failed to reach this year’s home Grey Cup, something the club has yet to do in its history.

The Roughriders won a home Grey Cup in 2013 with a blowout win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and have now also won a CFL championship at Princess Auto Stadium after beating the Montreal Alouettes by a score of 25-17. Trevor Harris was named the game’s Most Valuable Player, while Samuel Emilus was named Most Valuable Canadian.

The good news for Winnipeg is that the offseason started on Monday, meaning that the Grey Cup is once again up for grabs. Unless, of course, the sun explodes before then and none of this ends up mattering.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers finished fourth in the West Division standings in 2025 with a 10-8 record, qualifying for the playoffs as the crossover team before losing the East Semi-Final to the Montreal Alouettes. Zach Collaros threw for 3,048 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions over 13 regular-season games, going 6-7 as a starter.

The Blue Bombers ranked fifth in net offence, third in net defence, and eighth with a turnover differential of minus-eleven. The club’s leading rusher was Brady Oliveira with 1,163 yards, leading receiver was Nic Demski with 1,001 yards, and leading tackler was Tony Jones with 104 tackles. Winnipeg ranked first in attendance with average crowds of 32,343, which was a 3.7 percent increase from the previous year.
