Riders plan for Brett Lauther to ‘be out there swinging’ in 112th Grey Cup against Alouettes

Saskatchewan Roughriders’ kicker Brett Lauther did not finish practice on Thursday, but head coach Corey Mace stated he’s not in jeopardy of missing the 112th Grey Cup.

“His status is that he’ll be out there swinging, just like he was last week,” Mace said. “Kind of just the process we’ve been doing with Brett for a while.”

Lauther was not listed on the Riders’ injury report after the team’s first Grey Cup week practice session on Wednesday, but walked off the field early on Day 2 and was not made available to the media.

The 35-year-old missed Saskatchewan’s regular-season finale with a back injury, but suited up for the West Final, hitting all three of his field goals and two extra points in a 24-21 victory over the B.C. Lions. He’s made 21-of-23 field goals in the playoffs during his career.

Lauther had ups and downs during the 2025 season, hitting 39-of-54 field goal attempts and producing the worst mark for accuracy in the CFL at 72.2 percent. On Thursday, 3DownNation exclusively reported the Riders reached out to the Toronto Argonauts to inquire about the trade status of kicker Lirim Hajrullahu, but were rebuffed.

If Lauther was unable to go, American rookie Michael Hughes is the only other kicker on Saskatchewan’s roster. He connected on two field goals and two extra points in the only game he played this year.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (13-6) and Montreal Alouettes (12-8) will meet in the 112th Grey Cup at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg on Sunday, November 16, with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m. EST.

The Alouettes defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East Final by a score of 19-16, while the Roughriders came back to defeat the B.C. Lions in the West Final by a score of 24-21. The teams split their two regular-season meetings, though Montreal franchise quarterback Davis Alexander missed both games due to a hamstring injury.

The weather forecast in Winnipeg calls for a high of two degrees with a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN, CTV, and RDS in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally.

This marks the fifth time the Grey Cup will be played in Winnipeg and the second time it will be hosted at Princess Auto Stadium. The venue’s first Grey Cup was held in 2015 when the Edmonton Football Team defeated the Ottawa Redblacks by a score of 26-20, and Michael Reilly was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.
