Montreal Alouettes’ quarterback Davis Alexander has not started a playoff game since 2015, when he was a senior at Gig Harbor High School in Washington.
10 years later, the 27-year-old prepares to take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who have been to five straight Grey Cups, in the East Semi-Final Saturday afternoon at Percival Molson Stadium.
“Let’s go, best on best. There is no next week if you don’t do what you’re supposed to do. I love it. Put all the pressure on, I don’t care. Let’s go win the game,” Alexander said. “Mindset is gotta go and win, it’s win or go home. I’m so excited; this is what you train for, this is what we do it for.”
Alexander takes a perfect 11-0 record as a starting QB in the CFL into his first postseason game in the three-down league, including a 7-0 mark when he played during the 2025 regular season. The five-foot-11, 210-pound pivot completed 72.4 percent of his passes for 2,024 yards with 10 touchdowns and three interceptions in seven starts. He ran 12 times for 110 yards with one major.
“Right before you step on that field, maybe you feel a slight bit different, but you gotta focus and be disciplined enough to understand that it’s just another game. When you do that, you put yourself in a better spot, you put the whole team in a better spot,” head coach Jason Maas said.
“He’s played a lot of games now this year. Football is football; it’s no different. There are going to be some heartbeats that are a bit different right before you run on the field, but the moment you snap that first football, the game is the game. He’ll control that very well, I think he’ll be ready.”
In 2025, Alexander did not play in either regular-season game against Winnipeg. James Morgan started in a 26-13 Week 12 Montreal loss while McLeod Bethel-Thompson lost 19-10 at Princess Auto Stadium in Week 21. No. 10 made the trip to the Manitoba capital for the regular-season finale, but did not play as Maas elected to rest him after Hamilton clinched the top spot in the East Division.
“We wanted more than anything to get back at Winnipeg,” Alexander said after it was determined the Blue Bombers would crossover to the East Division play-downs. “They beat us last time we played 19-10. We’re a team that we feel like we thrive off being doubted a little bit, or maybe they’re coming in a little confident after beating us 19-10. Cool, let’s do it again; let’s go play at home.”
The Alouettes (10-8) host Winnipeg (10-8) in the East Semi-Final at Percival Molson Stadium on Saturday, November 1, with kickoff slated for 2 p.m. ET. The weather forecast in Montreal calls for a high of 8 degrees with a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN, RDS, and CTV in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 680 CJOB in Winnipeg and TSN 690 in Montreal.
