Montreal Alouettes add Duke QB Darian Mensah to negotiation list

The Montreal Alouettes have added American quarterback Darian Mensah to their exclusive negotiation list.

The 20-year-old native of San Luis Obispo, Calif. is a redshirt sophomore at Duke University where he has completed 70.3 percent of his passes for 2,211 yards, 17 touchdowns, and two interceptions over seven games this season.

The six-foot-three, 200-pound passer spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Tulane University. He redshirted in 2023, then completed 65.9 percent of his passes for 2,723 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 2024. He also rushed for 132 yards and one score.

CFL teams can claim the rights to up to 45 players via the negotiation list on a first-come, first-served basis, provided that they are not eligible for the Canadian or Global Drafts, and have never played in the league before. These players can be added, traded, or removed from the list at any time.

Being added to a negotiation list does not mean that the player has expressed interest in the CFL, and some are unaware that their rights have even been claimed. Players can only force their removal from the list if the team does not provide them with a minimum contract offer at their request.

The Montreal Alouettes (10-8) will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (10-8) in the East Semi-Final at Percival Molson Stadium on Saturday, November 1 with kickoff slated for 2:00 p.m. EDT. The two teams met at Princess Auto Stadium in the final week of the regular season as the Blue Bombers came away with a 19-10 victory.

The weather forecast in Montreal calls for a high of 8 degrees with a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN, RDS, and CTV in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 680 CJOB in Winnipeg and TSN 690 in Montreal.
